Testing colostrum quality

The quality of colostrum is directly linked to the level of solid components in the colostrum, or the dry matter.
With a brix refractometer, you measure the refraction of light that shines through a solution.
The extent of refraction is linked to the quantity of dry matter in the solution.

The higher the brix value, the better the quality of the colostrum. Colostrum with a brix value of more than 26% is top quality.
